Nicaragua is becoming a better known surf destination, yet still
has much smaller crowds compared to Costa Rica, El Salvador, and
Mexico. With an average of 300+ days per year of offshore winds
attributed to the proximity of Lake Nicaragua, the surfing in
Nicaragua remains optimal all day long, with the tides being your
main deciding factor of when to paddle out. The best time for
surfing in Nicaragua is May thru early December, which is when
the most south swells hit Nicaragua’s Pacific coast.
The Nicaragua Surf Condos give you convenient walking access
to the two most consistent Nicaragua surf breaks, Playa Colorado
and Panga Drops. The walk is over flat terrain, unlike many other
Nicaragua vacation rentals where you will have to hike up a steep
hill after your session. The central location of the Nicaragua
Surf Condos makes them your most convenient Nicaragua surf vacation
rental choice, putting you close to both of the surf breaks, the
golf course and pro shop, and to the restaurant and bar.
When you are tired out from catching so many un-crowded world-class
waves, you can recharge at the beach front club house and pool,
while admiring the pristine Nicaragua beach and coastline. If
you don’t feel like a second surf session, take a stroll
back to the condo and change up for a round of golf.
Access to the Playa Colorado and Panga Drops surf breaks is limited
to guests staying in the Hacienda Iguana Golf & Beach Club
(where the Nicaragua Surf Condos are located) and charted surf
boats. While staying at the Nicaragua Surf Condos, you have the
ability to enjoy dawn patrol and sunset sessions before any boats
arrive, and after the boats leave.
Here is a brief summary of the Playa Colorado and Panga Drops
surf breaks. For more information about other surf breaks close
to the Nicaragua Surf Condos please visit our SURF
MAP page.
Playa Colorado (walking access)
This river mouth beach break is one of the most coveted surf spots
in Nicaragua. Although it is typically a left, Playa Colorado
has been known to bring in some of the most incredible barreling
rights. No matter the size of swell hitting Nicaragua, Playa Colorado
packs a good punch and can hold swells ranging from waist high
up to double overhead. This break is approximately a 5-10 minute
walk from the Nicaragua Surf Condos.
Panga Drops (walking access)
This A-frame rock / beach break is also one of the most coveted
surf spots in Nicaragua, and will hold swell in the same range
as Playa Colorado and even bigger, up to triple overhead. This
break is approximately a 5 minute walk from the Nicaragua Surf
Condos, and a straight paddle out from the beach club house and
pool.
